Xperience: Look Up

This just happened yesterday...something quite out of the ordinary if you may say.

I was just returning from school (tired as usual), and I was approaching my bus-stop when a man stopped me. I thought it was the usual, you know "the ones who are dressed somewhat, who don't speak loudly/coherently enough for you to hear them, asking for change.". I wouldn't have been wrong to call him a homeless man, or at least if not that bad, a less privileged man (than I am?) :(

I thought he was going to ask me for something, but he gave me something instead. After he spoke at first, (incoherently of course), I thought "there we go again". But I stopped, and moved closer to him, and asked him to repeat himself. He said, "Look Up". I was like, "I'm sorry?". And he told me I was looking down while I was walking, and that I should rather look up while I walk. It exudes confidence!

I was like, Wow! Thank you. A huge smile on my face! It was what I needed, at least at that time. I still need it; good enough I always have some experience of this sort to look back to.

It's amazing how a stranger can kind of speak to you in a way that close ones can't. I didn't know him, but he's been able to give me something that would go with me a long way in life. Yeah, he's right. I do look down most of the time (most, when I'm mindlessly kicking stuff, or busy looking at the motion made by my feet), but there is a charge now. Look up! And you should do the same too. Whether metaphorically speaking, in terms of expecting the best out of situations, or actually in reality looking upward; do it.

For me as a Christian, the practicality of this experience or encounter strengthens the words of David in Psalm 121:1. "I will LIFT UP MINE EYES unto the hills, from whence cometh my help..."
